Ardoq has been serving Canadian customers for years. Today, we are excited to announce something new: Canadian data residency is now Generally Available (GA).
For organizations in financial services, government, and crown corporations, this is a major milestone. Data residency is not just an IT preference. It’s often a legal, regulatory, and risk requirement. And until now, many Canadian organizations using cloud software have had to balance transformation goals against concerns about where their data actually lives.
With Ardoq’s Canadian data residency, you no longer have to choose.
Why Data Residency Matters
For banks, insurers, public agencies, and government-owned enterprises, data residency is about more than geography.
It’s about:
- Compliance with national and provincial regulations
- Protecting sensitive citizen and customer data
- Managing operational and reputational risk
- Meeting internal audit and governance requirements
- Maintaining public trust
In many organizations, architecture data is not “just IT data.” It reflects how services are delivered, how systems are connected, and where risk sits across the enterprise. That kind of insight deserves the same protection as financial records or personal data.
Canadian data residency gives regulated organizations confidence that their architecture foundation is built on compliant, sovereign infrastructure.
What Canadian Data Residency Means in Ardoq
When you choose Canadian data residency with Ardoq, your tenant runs entirely within Canadian AWS infrastructure, meaning that your environment is hosted as follows:
- Primary region: Canada (Central), near Montreal, Québec
- Backup and disaster recovery: Canada West, near Calgary, Alberta
Production data lives in Montreal and is replicated securely to Calgary for resilience. Both regions are located in Canada.
This design ensures that your tenant data, backups, and recovery environment all stay inside Canadian borders.
What Stays in Canada
For customers using Canadian data residency, the core service data stays in Canada, including:
- The data you load into Ardoq
- Tenant configuration and system metadata
- Backups and disaster recovery copies
- Logs stored in Canadian AWS accounts
In short: the information you rely on to plan, govern, and analyze your architecture remains in Canada.
Built-in Enterprise-Grade Security
Ardoq’s Canadian deployment includes the same security architecture trusted by customers in highly regulated industries worldwide.
This includes:
- Encryption at rest
- Encryption in transit
- Strict access controls
- Continuous monitoring and auditability
Security is not an add-on. It’s built into how the Canadian environment is designed and operated.
Built for Resilience, Not Just Compliance
Canadian data residency is not just about where data lives. It’s also about ensuring systems remain available when they matter most.
The Canadian deployment uses multiple Availability Zones in both Canadian regions and supports cross-region recovery between Montreal and Calgary.
This gives you:
- Protection against local failures
- High availability inside Canada
- Disaster recovery without leaving the country
You get resilience without sacrificing residency.
AI Features and Data Residency
Where AI features operate directly on tenant data, Ardoq aims to run that processing in the same Canadian regions. We will use LLM models (Anthropic) hosted in the Canadian region.
If any capability depends on services outside Canada, we document it clearly and discuss the implications up front.
Who This Is For
Canadian data residency is designed for organizations where data control is non-negotiable, including:
- Banks and financial institutions
- Insurance companies
- Federal, provincial, and municipal agencies
- Crown corporations
- Public utilities and infrastructure providers
- Universities and research organizations
If you operate under Canadian privacy laws, data sovereignty requirements, or sector regulations, this release removes a major barrier to adopting modern Enterprise Architecture at scale.
Now Available
Canadian data residency is now generally available.
Existing customers can work with their Ardoq team to move into the Canadian region. New customers can choose Canada as their residency location from day one.
A Long-Term Commitment to Canada

This is not a one-off regional launch. It’s part of a long-term commitment to serving Canadian organizations with secure, compliant, enterprise-ready architecture tooling.
As demand grows, we will continue to expand features, availability, and capabilities within our Canadian deployment.
